وقال سكوت إنه يدين اعتقال 75 من أعضاء جماعة الإخوان المسلمين من الناشطين السياسين والمرشحين لانتخابات مجلس الشورى القادمة، وهو ما رفع عدد المعتقلين السياسين إلى 300 معتقل- على حد قوله.
ووصف سكوت جماعةَ الإخوان المسلمين بالقوة السياسية ذات المشروعية، مشيرًا إلى أنه رأس فريقًا من أعضاء البرلمان الأوروبي، وقام بمراقبة الانتخابات التشريعية الماضية، والتي فازت فيها جماعة الإخوان بـ88 مقعدًا من إجمالي 454 مقعدًا على الرغم من فساد الانتخابات بسبب عنف النظام ضد معارضيه من الإخوان بالإضافة إلى أيمن نور.
وذكر سكوت أنه قابل قادة الإخوان المسلمين أثناء الانتخابات الماضية قائلاً: رغم أننا لا نتفق معهم في أجندتهم الدينية فإننا نُصرُّ على حقهم المطلق في حرية التعبير عن آرائهم.
وقال سكوت إن البرلمان الأوروبي أصدر مؤخرًا عددًا من البيانات السياسية التي تؤكد على تدهور الوضع السياسي في مصر، مشيرًا إلى أن أيمن نور- زعيم حزب الغد والإخوان ليسوا هم المسجونين السياسين المصريين في مصر فقط؛ ولكن طلعت السادات- ابن شقيق الرئيس السادات- هو الآخر حُكم عليه بالسجن لمدة عام لإهانته المؤسسة العسكرية، وبتواطئٍ من فتحي سرور- رئيس مجلس الشعب.
وشدد سكوت على شجب البرلمان الأوروبي لإساءات النظام للبرلمانيين المصريين، وعلى رأسهم أيمن نور الذي اتهمه نظام مبارك بتزوير 25 توقيعًا من توكيلات تأسيس حزبه ليخسر مقعده البرلماني وحريته السياسية وحياته الأسرية وصحته بيد من ينشرون ثقافة الخوف والفساد.
